I always knew Johnny Depp was a good actor, and it seems like every new role I see him in just drives the point home even more. This time, Depp takes what would otherwise be a mediocre film and makes it unforgettable. The story is of a young girl who steals a pirate necklace from a young boy. She happens to be the governor’s daughter, so when she is kidnapped by a bunch of unkillable pirates, people get a little upset. Captain Jack Sparrow (Depp) and Will Turner (Bloom) set off to recapture her, although Sparrow has some plans of his own. The romantic subplot between Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann (played by Keira Knightly) is so cheesy and contrived that every time they were on the screen, I felt like saying “Just go back to Johnny.” Another complaint I have is with the way the Elizabeth Swann character is portrayed. She’s unbelievably gorgeous at every moment of the entire movie. After being chased by skeleton pirates, after being stranded on an island with Jack Sparrow, and after being in and out of the ocean countless times, the only flaw in her beauty is a faint trace of ash on her forehead. Evidently her beauty is a natural defense against the ugliness that nature can impose on women sometimes. So the bottom line to this movie is:

Heeeeere’s Johnny! Theeeeeere’s ….. some …. other people!
