So a co-worker just pointed out to me that apparently President Bush is coming to speak at my alma mater:

It’s in a month. That’s crazy. Here’s the scene I’m picturing.

Calvin College President Gaylen Byker sits with his staff in a seedy conference room.

“We have to get someone, commencement is in a month,” he says, slamming his fist on the table.

A tired secretary finally speaks, “Well Garrison Keiler backed out, and we’re not asking Allen Iverson back again.”

Gaylen suddenly stops his pacing and looks inquisitively toward the ceiling. “Wait. I’ve got a crazy idea, but it just might work.” He picks up the phone.

“Hello,” says President George W. Bush.

“Hey G. What are you up to?”

“Nothing, you wanna do something?”

And I got the chair of the Communications department for the speaker when I graduated. Don’t get me wrong, I like the guy, but having the President speak at my commencement would certainly have been cool, even though I don’t necessarily like him as a president.
